Wi-Fi From Your Light Bulbs? | de.Light Smart Light Bulb WiFi Extender Review

The De.Light works off the same principal as a powerline adapter. It makes use of your existing light circuits to send internet signals from your router to the bulbs. Each bulb then acts as a wireless access point that broadcasts the signal via a refreshing shower of wifi. The bulb uses a unique algorithm that determines the best wifi channel.

As if sprinkling wifi throughout your house wasn’t cool enough this smart bulb is also modular. Instead of having to replace the bulb when it goes out you can simply crack this little puppy open and replace the LEDs. That’s much less expensive than having to buy an entire new bulb.

The pass through adapter setup is quick and simple. Just Plug an ethernet cable from one of the lan ports on your router to the pass through adapter, plug it directly into the wall, and you’re ready to go. With the pass through feature of this adapter you don’t even have to worry about losing access to a wall plug. Once your adapter is setup simply screw in your light bulbs and control them through the app.

The delight app is simple and straight forward. Use it to turn lights on and off, adjust brightness, and set schedules. In our speed test the de.Light was not able to connect due to a weak signal.

I love the fact that you can change the LEDs. This is a cool feature that I think other bulbs should try to emulate. I also love the concept of using the bulbs to send wifi throughout your home. They just didn’t execute on the idea as well as they could have. XY-Connect claims that you can get up to 100mbps using these lights. If you’re looking for a way to achieve faster internet speeds and eliminate dead spots I’d say look for an alternative. If XY-Connect can improve the performance of these bulbs they will be a game changer.
