How to Create 3 Looks from 1 Room using Home Accessories | OKA

You can completely change the look and feel of a room using only home accessories. First a neutral scheme – Choose clean-lined lamps in gunmetal and chrome and stick to lampshades in off-white or cream. With textiles, limit your palette and stick to paler or earthier tones. Faux fur throws will add texture and warmth. Show restraint with decorative accessories, pieces in natural wood, beaten metal or faux shagreen will
blend well with a neutral scheme. And now, a sophisticated scheme full of colour – Start with lamps, and if you’re going for colour use a matching pair of lamps placed symmetrically. Cushions are a great way to add colour and being small scale you can be as bold as you like. A colour-block or patterned rug will add depth. Finally dress with accessories, a hand-painted tray, richly coloured faux flower stems and bright ceramics
will add further colour highlights. Now for a Bohemian scheme – With lamps go for rich colours and interesting forms, add pattern with pleated fabric shades. Transform sofas and armchairs by draping with colourful throws and add plenty of cushions. Tie it all together with a richly patterned rug. Then accessorise with pieces that you love: a string of marble beads, candles, ceramics and faux flowers. And there you have it. Three entirely different looks created without moving a single piece of furniture.

Love these tips! I think you may have just helped me solve my living room design feng shui problem. Any tips for pet-proof home decorating? It’s hard to choose pieces that you know your pets may knock over or chew on.
